Claude Bitton Philanthropy Background
Philanthropy is considered to be very important in Judaism as well as in Society as a whole. The base difference between philanthropy versus charity is that charity is usually done with the kindly or sympathetic disposition to aid the needy as a result of deep feeling or understanding of their misery or suffering. Philanthropy, on the other hand, is done with goodwill toward one's fellow men especially as expressed through active efforts to promote human welfare. The key difference is that the first requires a "needy person(s) or cause" as a starting point and the latter does not.
Claude Bitton has been recognized in the community as a philanthropist, giving to all in need with a smile on his face. He has funded numerous organizations to promote Kiruv and Torah education, providing in some cases the amounts of millions of dollars at a given time.
Among the organizations that he has financially supported are: (in no specific order)
- JUMP - Jewish Urban Meeting Place
- Kollel Yismach Moshe – a Moroccan Sephardi Kollel in Thornhill, Ontario
- Barouch Yeshiva – an institute of Jewish learning in Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem, Israel.
